Hyper, the company behind the original iStick
that raised over $1.1 million through crowdfunding website Kickstarter,
is back with the next-generation of the well received and extremely
handy little accessory.
It can sometimes be difficult to take an
extremely functional product that satisfies its user base and improve
upon it as part of the next iteration. However, that’s exactly what has
been achieved with the iStick Pro thanks to some intelligent design and
some even more intelligent precision engineering and manufacturing work.
By pretty much reinventing the standard USB port Hyper has been able to
extend the capabilities of the iStick Pro to offer maximum
compatibility with a range of smartphones, tablets and laptops.
Like the original iStick, the Pro version will contain a Lightning and
standard USB connections for use with Apple’s modern iPhone and iPads as
well as most computers and laptops. In addition to those connections
Hyper has also improved upon the standard USB connector by integrating a
pop-out micro USB connection that will offer compatibility with a whole
host of Android powered smartphones and tablets. Consumers will be able
to download the accompanying iStick app for iOS and Android entirely
free-of-charge and will have the choice of purchasing the accessory with
16, 32, 64 or 128GB of internal storage.
For those that want additional external storage for storing things like
photos, videos, documents or audio tracks, the iStick Pro is almost
perfect but comes with a little trade-off. Due to restrictions within
Apple’s iOS platform users are required to use the free native iStick
app to transfer and view files. If you can handle accessing this type of
content through a third-party app then this could be the perfect and
extremely lightweight solution. The iStick Pro will be available for
purchase in March with no official pricing details available just yet.
